Lynher Dairies Cheese Company

Lynher Dairies is one of the largest speciality cheese producers in Britain.

The company hand makes Cornish Yarg Cheese in open vats to a traditional recipe.

The cheese is wrapped in nettle leaves or wild garlic leaves which forms a natural rind. The cheese is unique in its concept and appeals to modern day interest in sourcing food of known provenance, which is farm produced and natural.

In a recent consumer survey carried out by the British Cheese Board, Cornish Yarg was voted to be one of Britain’s top 10 cheeses, the only branded product on the list.

Two million litres of milk is processed each year, sourced from the cheese producer’s own herd of cattle along with 10 nominated neighbouring farms. Two hundred tonnes of Yarg cheese is distributed nationally to major retailers, independents, airlines, cruise ships and to the US market on a weekly basis. The market remains buoyant and the company has experienced steady year-on-year growth over the past 10 years.

Lynher Dairies employs 30 people who’ve all played a role in helping Cornish Yarg achieve numerous “Golds” in The World Cheese Awards, British Cheese Awards and International Cheese Awards. 

The company has also received a much coveted RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) award for the dairy building and owner Catherine Mead has also been awarded British Cheese Awards Cheese Person of the Year, Best Woman in Farming and Cornwall’s Woman of Achievement Award.
